A Knox County woman, convicted of drunk driving last month, was said to be allegedly responsible for an accident resulting in injuries involving a Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Authorities released details of the accident his morning.

Daviess County Deputy Hunter Goble was responding to an EMS call early Saturday when a 2010 Dodge Challenger failed to yield on Old U.S. Highway 50 near Cindy Kay Drive in Washington.

The Sheriff’s Department says Goble did all he could to a avoid a crash but his patrol vehicle collided with the Challenger, veering off the roadway and into a ditch.

Goble was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital with a head injury, arm and leg pain, and multiple lacerations. He was treated and released. Two passengers in the Challenger, Hector Mora-Salinas and Kolbi Simmons, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, 20-year-old Karina Hernandez of Monroe City, was found to have a blood alcohol content of .229% and tested positive for THC and opiates. She was arrested on multiple charges, including OWI causing injury, OWI with a prior conviction, and driving while suspended.

Authorities say Hernandez was arrested in January for OWI and was convicted on the charge on February 25.

The Washington Police Department continues to investigate the crash.
