Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday and a reminder that it falls on this coming Monday, February 17th.
As a federal holiday, government offices, most banks, and post offices will be closed. Mail delivery will also be suspended for the day.
Originally established to honor George Washington’s birthday, the holiday now recognizes all U.S. presidents. Some states and communities mark the occasion with historical programs, sales events, and educational activities.
Here in Vincennes at Grouseland, the historical mansion of the 9th President of the U-S, William Henry Harrison, residents are invited to celebrate with a special President’s tour, games, trivia, and activities and the Harley Hawk Live Raptor program.
There will also be photo ops including an opportunity to pose with a prop from the “Parks and Rec” television show from season 7 episode 3.
In that episode, events lead to the discovery that the fictitious town of Pawnee, Indiana, has a resident that is a descendant of Harrison and a trip is made to Vincennes to Grouseland. As some may recall, producers of the show came to Vincennes and photographed the inside of the Grouseland mansion to recreate a replica for the scenes depicted in the show that aired in January of 2015.
On Monday events start at 11 a.m. at Grouseland with that raptor program at 3 p.m.
