The Washington Road Bridge over the White River is closed to heavy truck traffic.
Heavy trucks and semis have been utilizing the old iron bridge as a run around as US 50 westbound is closed this week for a culvert replacement.
The bridge has a 15 ton load limit and law enforcement and county highway officials in Knox and Daviess Counties have been putting out warnings that the area is being patrolled to keep those heavy trucks from crossing the bridge.
The official detour utilizes State Roads 57, 61 and 241.
In and update on the US 50 project today, the Indiana Department of Transportation posted that INDOT crews have been working to remove the concrete surface to reach the pipe that needs replaced. The new pipe is expected to be installed today. New concrete and asphalt will need to be laid following the installation.
The road work is scheduled to last all of this week with the road reopening next week.
