As the holiday season of 2025 is upon us, the Salvation Army of Vincennes efforts to support those in need across Knox County is in full swing.
Captain Joey Gates says the Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettle Campaign has started as bell ringers have recently been stationed at local department and grocery stores.
He stressed that donations to the kettles stay in the area, funding food pantries, utility assistance programs, and other community services.
For those who want to contribute their time, the organization still needs volunteer bell ringers. Captain Gates encourages individuals, families, and groups to get involved. “It’s not just about ringing the bell. It’s about spreading holiday cheer,” he said. Volunteers can sign up at RegisterToRing.com by entering their zip code to find available locations.
Additionally, the Salvation Army is accepting sign-ups for its Toy Shop, Food Distribution, and Coats for Kids programs. Families in need can visit their location at 2300 North Second Street to register Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The deadline for sign-ups is next week.
The organization is also managing an Angel Tree program at the Vincennes Walmart, where shoppers can select an angel and provide gifts for local children. With more than 3,300 families already signed up, the Salvation Army needs all the support it can get to ensure no child goes without a gift this Christmas.
For those hesitant to seek assistance, Captain Gates offers reassurance: “We’re here to help, not judge. Just walk in and say, ‘I need help.’ That’s why we’re here.”
