The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is using new tools and training to combat drug-impaired driving. Deputies now have access to the SoToxa™ Oral Fluid Mobile Test System, a handheld device that detects six drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and THC, through an oral fluid swab. The device provides on-the-spot results, eliminating delays from lab testing.

Additionally, Deputies Kein Stein and Brayten Potter have completed phlebotomy training at Vincennes University, allowing them to draw blood for impaired driving investigations. The training, in partnership with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, aims to expand this capability among deputies to enhance enforcement. Sheriff Doug Vantlin says the advancements represent the future of OWI enforcement.
