This month, the Shircliff Gallery at Vincennes University showcases Opusilva: Woodland Work, an evocative art exhibit by local artist Sarah Wolfe.

Wolfe, as many may remember, served as the Knox County Eclipse Director.  She spent over a year, planning and coordinating eclipse related activities in the county prior to the event that occurred this past April.

Running from October 30 through December 6, the art exhibit features Wolfe’s intricate mixed-media sculptures crafted from organic forest materials, connecting visitors with nature’s textures and elements indoors.

The exhibit’s name, a blend of the Latin words opus (work) and silva (forest), reflects Wolfe’s intention: immersing viewers in the natural world. Through materials like twisted vines, recycled cardboard, and Indiana-sourced beeswax, Wolfe’s pieces evoke the richness of forest life and invite visitors to rediscover childlike awe for nature.

An opening reception will be held on November 7 at 5:30 p.m., and throughout the exhibit, Wolfe will also work with Vincennes University art students on a collaborative installation in the gallery’s front display case.

The exhibit is a call to embrace and protect nature, and Wolfe’s hope is that it inspires visitors to appreciate the outdoors—whether it’s outside or within the gallery walls.
