FROM INDIANA PUBLIC BROADCASTING

Indiana’s three candidates for governor—Republican Mike Braun, Democrat Jennifer McCormick, and Libertarian Donald Rainwater—met on Thursday for their final debate of the election cycle, outlining their different visions for the state’s future.

The candidates revisited familiar topics, including property taxes, cannabis legalization, and abortion. However, they also addressed new issues like labor unions, government job cuts, and gun regulations.

On the topic of gun laws, McCormick criticized Braun’s running mate, Micah Beckwith, as being too extreme for Indiana, citing his stance on untraceable, unregistered firearms. “That is just scary,” McCormick said.

Braun countered by defending his position on gun regulations, emphasizing his support for strengthening Indiana’s red flag law, which allows law enforcement to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed dangerous.

Rainwater set himself apart by opposing red flag laws, warning against government overreach. “We’re that close to our government telling us… they need to take our guns,” he said.

Election Day is November 5.
