Duke Energy will present a $20,000 Climate Resiliency grant to support Vincennes’ Minooteeni Park.

Minooteeni Park has transformed a section of the Vincennes Riverwalk into an interpretive nature space, highlighting native plants, trees, and the culture of Indigenous peoples. The park was once a Piankeshaw village and honors the Miami and Peoria Tribes of Oklahoma, who helped name and guide the development of the site. It features educational signage, a nature playground, and supports local wildlife and pollinators.

Duke Energy officials say the grant is aimed at enhancing the park’s efforts in preserving the environment and showcasing the rich history of the area’s native communities.

Spokesperson Kurt Phegley explained that The Climate  Resiliency Grant category of the Duke Energy Foundation applies to applications that focus on restoring and protecting the environment, water conservation and soil sustainability, trail systems, and habitat protection.

The check presentation is set for Noon Tuesday, Oct 29th at the park, located at the corner of 1st and Hart Streets.
