The Salvation Army Vincennes Corps is ramping up its efforts for the fall season, focusing on helping those in need. According to Captain Joey Gates, there is a particular need for infant and children’s coats. Donations can be dropped off at their location at 2300 N. 2nd St. in Vincennes.

In addition, the Salvation Army is now accepting applications for the Toy Shoppe/Angel Tree program, coats, and Christmas Food Boxes. Applications are being taken every Monday through Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., through Thanksgiving. No appointment is necessary during those hours.

This week also marks the anniversary of the Salvation Army’s first Red Kettle, set up in 1891. The tradition has since expanded globally, helping not only during Christmas but year-round.

Volunteers are needed to ring bells beside the kettles for the upcoming Christmas season. For more information or to sign up, visit https://www.registertoring.com/.
