A Washington man has been arrested for Failing to Report the Discovery of Human Remains.

Washington Police reported that on the evening of October 4th they responded to a tip regarding an unreported death in the 700 block of Center Street.

At approximately 8:55 PM, officers from the department’s 2nd shift came into contact with 54-year-old Marcus Lane. Their investigation led them to a nearby residence in the 800 block of Center Street, where they discovered the body of 91-year-old Phyllis Lane, Marcus’s mother.

Due to the body’s condition authorities believe she had been deceased for some time.

A Washington Police Department detective was called to the scene, and a search warrant was obtained for the residence. T

An autopsy revealed that Phyllis Lane’s death was due to natural causes. Marcus Lane was subsequently arrested and charged with Failure to Report the Discovery or Handling of Human Remains.

Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigator, the Daviess County Coroner’s Office, and the Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office were also involved in the case.
