September is Suicide Prevention Month. It’s a time to raise awareness of mental health issues that lead to thoughts of suicide and to support people and families who’ve been affected by it.
The VU Counseling Center, in partnership with other Knox County agencies, is sponsoring this year’s Knox County Suicide Prevention Walk this weekend.
it will be held at the Vincennes University Outdoor Track at 9-am on Saturday September 21st. In case of rain it will be moved indoors.
Kathy Evans is a mental health counselor at the university who says suicide prevention is a topic that needs to be talked about openly. ” People need to know they’re not alone, and that we’re here to support them if they’re struggling with mental health issues. We also want those who’ve lost a loved one to suicide to know they aren’t alone, and we’re here for them as well.” she said.
Again the Knox County Suicide Prevention Walk is Saturday at the VU Outdoor track, if it rains it will be moved indoors. It starts at 9-am.
