Despite minimal or no rainfall last week, crop conditions across Indiana remained stable, according to the USDA’s Indiana Statistics Office.

Topsoil moisture levels did decrease, with only 22% of fields rated as having adequate or surplus moisture.

The average temperature was 69.3 degrees, slightly above normal for this time of year. Statewide, average precipitation was just 0.22 inches, significantly below the usual amount. There were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending September 15.

The lack of rain hit southern and eastern Indiana hardest, but corn and soybean crops are still ahead of their typical development pace.

Farmers continued harvesting corn for silage, though dry conditions have negatively impacted hay production. Pastures are also struggling, leading to more farmers supplementing livestock feed with hay.
