As Indiana faces a critical need for blood donations, the Knox County Health Department is teaming up with Versiti Blood Center of Indiana for a mobile blood drive. The event is scheduled for Monday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will take place in the parking lot behind the Bierhaus Building at 328 N. 2nd Street in Vincennes.
Community Health Nurse Susan Yochum emphasized the ongoing need for blood donations, particularly due to a shortage over the summer when schools and colleges were on break.
“One of the biggest contributors to blood drives are schools and colleges, and they’ve been out all summer,” Yochum said. “They’re just now getting back, so the drives have been limited, and there’s been a real need in September.”
Versiti supplies most of the blood used at Good Samaritan Hospital. As an incentive, Versiti is offering two promotions for donors at Monday’s event: a chance to win two VIP tickets to an Indianapolis Colts game and two tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour on November 1 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling 812-882-8700 or 812-230-0488 over the weekend. Walk-ins are also welcome, but scheduled appointments will have priority.
The blood drive will be held Monday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. behind the Bierhaus Building at 328 N. 2nd Street.
