A Sullivan County man was arrested after attempting to flee from a conservation officer while illegally harvesting ginseng.

Indiana Conservation Officer Dustin Cary encountered the man on state forest property. Upon seeing the officer, the suspect threw his digging tool and ran toward a nearby lake, tossing his backpack into the water. During the attempt, a black case containing a glass smoking device fell onto the shore.

The man then jumped into the lake, where Officer Cary apprehended him. The suspect was transported to the Sullivan County Jail on multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest.

As of this posting, a photo of the accused was released but his name was not included in the DNR press release.
