Scattered rainfall and cooler temperatures have helped maintain soil moisture and improve crop conditions across Indiana.
In this week’s crop report from the USDA for the week ending August 18th, experts say topsoil moisture levels increased, with 72 percent rated as adequate or surplus.
The average temperature last week was 72.2 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly below normal, while the state received an average of 0.90 inches of rain, just above normal levels.
Corn and soybean conditions improved slightly, with 73 percent of corn and 72 percent of soybeans rated in good to excellent condition. However, there have been some reports of tar spot in corn. Both crops are progressing ahead of schedule.
