Vincennes University is kicking of another academic year today.
The annual opening meeting for faculty and staff was held at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center this morning.
VU President Dr. Chuck Johnson opened up the meeting this morning thanking the staff and crews at the physical plant for their work in keeping the campus looking it’s best.
The keynote speaker was Jay Akridge the trustee chair in teaching and learning excellence and a professor of agricultural economics at Purdue University.
He spoke on the current and future challenges and opportunities in higher education.
One of his main points was the perception of the quality of higher education. He highlighted some points from a study done by Strada Education Foundation and Gallop…
Akridge says that the more relevant a student considered their education in their job and daily life then the more likely they were to say that it was a great education.
Following the speech there was panel discussion with several VU officials discussing current and future programming plans across all VU campuses.
The first day of classes at VU is Monday August 19th.
