Vincennes Community Schools Superintendent Greg Parsley told First City News that the school board on Monday gave their approval to adding language to the high school handbook that makes final exams mandatory with a medical emergency being the only reason to postpone a student’s final.
In the elementary school handbook, language was deleted which required parents to call the school office and request homework in case of absence. The new language says students are expected to get missed assignments from their teacher upon returning to school. They will then have one night to complete the work for each day of absence. In the event of a planned absence, parents are encouraged to notify teachers in advance and assignments can be provided if time allows.
The school board also approved the retirement of Tonya Stoll. She will leave Washington Learning Academy after this school year. Stoll has been with the VCSC for over 26 years.
