The Knox County Commissioners have formed a committee to review the county’s employee health insurance plan.
The plan is due for renewal in October.
Commissioners’ President T.J. Brink said the committee will include a group of county employees from departments such as the courts, highway, sheriff, probation, and health, along with Commissioner Tim Ellerman and county attorney Drew Porter.
Brink said the goal is to gather employee input on insurance needs acknowledging that it’s no secret the current plan is very expensive. Brink noted that although the final decision will rest with the three commissioners, he wants the employees—who are directly affected by the plan—to have a voice. “ I’m really looking forward to the committee and the work. Everything’s on the table.” he said. “We have to look at ways that we can reduce the cost of the plan to our employees while still maintaining a quality health insurance plan.”
The committee is expected to begin work soon.
