FROM INDIANA PUBLIC BROADCASTING
The Indiana Department of Health says it was notified this week the federal government canceled COVID-19 grants given to the state. An I-D-O-H official estimates the state could lose about 40 million dollars.
The U-S Department of Health and Human Services is pulling back funding from state and local health departments across the country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reportedly expects to recover money within 30 days of when departments were notified.
I-D-O-H Legislative and External Affairs Director Rachel Swartwood says the agency is still trying to determine the full extent of the impact. “We are working with our team to evaluate what’s going on, communicating with our staff, and our goal is to ensure that no direct services to Hoosiers are disrupted.” she said.
The C-D-C is rescinding more than 11 billion dollars total from state and local health departments as well as some nongovernment and international recipients.
