FROM INDIANA PUBLIC BROADCASTING

Members of an American Postal Workers Union gathered at the Indiana Statehouse Thursday as a part of a national push against the privatization of the U-S Postal Service. The union says it wants the postal service to remain an independent public agency.

The push by postal workers against privatization comes after billionaire Elon Musk — who is advising President Donald Trump on major cuts to the federal government — said the agency should be privatized.

Steve Vaughn is a retired U-S-P-S worker. He says privatization could lead to increased costs for customers. He also says it could also impact mail delivery frequency, especially in rural areas like the one he lives in.

The U-S-P-S is self-funded, relying on the sale of their products and services to cover its operation costs. There are currently over 650 thousand U-S-P-S workers across the U-S.
