The South Knox girls’ basketball team received a spirited sendoff Friday morning at a community-wide pep session ahead of their first-ever state championship appearance.
Fans packed the gym to cheer on the No. 1-ranked Lady Spartans as they prepare to face No. 2 Rensselaer Central in the Class 2A state title game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday.
South Knox Head Coach Hollie Eaves reflected on the historic season.
“It’s been crazy. They broke so many records. Going to state is huge for our program, our school, and the community. I’m just really glad it could happen.”
Senior Ella Bobe said the team is ready for the challenge.
“We’ve been preparing all week. Our coach has a great game plan, and we’re ready to go out and execute. It’s the last game for some of us, so we’re just soaking in every moment.”
The team will be welcomed home with a community celebration at South Knox on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
