Vincennes University was stirring with excitement Monday with anticipation of celebrating 100 years of Journalism on the campus. The ceremony was held in the Shake Library hosted by the program’s Advisor and Assistant Professor of Journalism Jennifer Mcneece, as well as the campus newspaper journalists.

The special ceremony was held to show the community a new logo for The Trailblazer, the student run campus newspaper. The new logo was designed by a VU Student. Those attending the ceremony indicated that the new logo along with McNeece, described as a passionate advisor, The Trailblazer looks to have a bright future.

Trailblazer Journalist, Joshua Smith shared his thoughts on the ceremony as well as his hopes for the future saying, “The ceremony was an amazing way to induct the new logo” Smith said with excitement, “ It gives the whole program a fresh start”.

Over the past century, Vincennes University’s campus newspaper has undergone several changes, including multiple name updates and shifts in leadership. The current advisor, now in her second year, continues to guide the program toward growth. Reflecting on these changes, Smith shared his perspective on the newspaper’s evolution and its future.

“With this being my second-year writing for the newspaper, I’ve gotten to see how the journalism program started, is improving and where it’s going.”  Smith continued, saying “We have so many things in store for the semester and I hope we get more writers interested in joining in the future after we are gone”.

The Trailblazer publishes stories online on current events and important business on VU’s campus as well as news about the city of Vincennes.   The paper recently posted a story on the new Vincennes Trolley system,

Students interested in pursuing a Journalism degree, or students pursuing other majors who are interested in writing for the campus newspaper can reach out to the Vincennes University Communications Department located in Davis Hall for more information.
