The Vincennes City Council has unanimously approved a preliminary resolution for a six-year tax abatement for the Bierhaus Flatts housing project.
The $30 million development will bring a 240-unit multi-family complex to Bierhaus Boulevard, across from Kohl’s. It’s a major step toward addressing the region’s housing needs.
The project has been in the works for some time.
The Vincennes Redevelopment Commission has backed the project, providing infrastructure support through TIF funding.
City officials say they’ve been working for years to attract developments like this, calling it one of the largest projects the city has seen in some time.
Developers estimate that once construction begins, about 100 workers will be on-site daily for the 18-month building period. Once completed, the complex will employ around four staff members for operations.
A public hearing on the tax abatement will be scheduled before final approval.
