Just days before the start of Black History Month, the Vincennes State Historic Sites hosted a special program on Friday highlighting African American history in Southern Indiana.
The event included presentations from the Evansville African American Museum, historian Larry Curry, and the Black History Preservation Project of Knox County. Topics ranged from the migration of African Americans to Vincennes after slavery to their role in establishing businesses and contributing to the community’s growth.
Organizers encouraged attendees to view the city’s history through a broader lens and consider the impact African Americans have had on the region’s success.
The event also aimed to spark interest in preserving and exploring more untold stories as Black History Month approaches.
