Another round of winter weather is set to impact Southwestern Indiana. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 4 a.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday for Knox, Daviess, Sullivan, Greene, and Martin Counties. A more severe Winter Storm Warning covers Gibson, Pike, Dubois Counties, and the rest of Southwestern Indiana from midnight tonight to midnight Friday night.
The National Weather Service predicts 2 to 4 inches of snow in the Advisory area, with up to 5 inches in the Warning area. This weather is expected to further deteriorate road conditions, particularly on bridges and overpasses, making travel hazardous.
Schools are already feeling the impact of lingering snow and ice on secondary roads, with many opting for cancellations or E-Learning again today (Thursday) . Some schools managed to hold in-person classes with delays.
Knox County Highway Engineer Matt Holden commended road crews for their hard work during this challenging winter season at the Commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday. He said crews have been working hard in the stressful situation and though not thrilled with the current forecast for Friday and early Saturday he says his department will take it as it comes.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and allow extra travel time. For updated road conditions, call 511 or visit 511in.org.
