New Year’s Day saw the arrest of a Knox County man for murder in Gibson County.
A fire early Tuesday morning at a home on East State Road 64 near Francisco resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set.
On Wednesday, law enforcement arrested 53-year-old Michael R. Kegg Jr. of Decker in connection with the case. Kegg is now facing murder charges.
The victims’ names have not been released, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking residents to review security footage from December 30th and 31st for any suspicious activity.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 7027 East State Road 64 near Francisco on New Year’s Eve morning at 6:24 local time.
Upon arrival Oakland City Police gained entry to the home where one person was found dead but heavy smoke and fire didn’t law enforcement to go any further into the residence.
Francisco firefighters went inside and found two separate fires and another body.
The investigation led authorities to begin attempts to locate Kegg-Jr. who was listed as a resident of the address. His description was released to law enforcement and the public.
