The new Vincennes Trolley public transportation system will launch next month, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for Monday, December 2nd, at 10 a.m. at Vincennes City Hall.

The community is invited to attend and learn about the service, which will cover 52 stops throughout historic Vincennes.

The idea for a citywide bus system gained momentum around early 2023, during the start of Mayor Joe Yochum’s fourth term.

Funding from the Hoosier Enduring Legacy Program (HELP) and other sources played a crucial role in making the project a reality. Public input was gathered through community meetings and surveys to shape the system’s logistics.

Operated in partnership with VanGo, based at the Vincennes YMCA, the Trolley will start with two buses running one-hour routes, five days a week.

The service is designed to meet the needs of residents without transportation, college students navigating the city, and people requiring rides to stores or doctor’s appointments.

The buses are styled to resemble vintage trolleys, paying homage to a streetcar system that operated in Vincennes in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The ribbon cutting at City Hall will mark the official introduction of this new service.
