The Knox County Health Department is offering a range of services this month, including free A1C finger-stick tests for Diabetes Awareness Month, participation in the Great American Smokeout, and a blood drive.
Free A1C checks are available by appointment through November. Originally scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday this week, the high demand filled all available appointments, but Community Health Nurse Susan Yochum says the health department is extending the offer through the end of the month. Interested persons can schedule that appointment at 812-882-8700.
The department is also encouraging smokers to use November 19, the Great American Smokeout, as a quit day. Representatives will be at Vincennes University’s Shake Library and Tecumseh Dining Center offering cessation information from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition, the department is hosting a blood drive on November 26, partnering with Versiti Blood Center to support Good Samaritan Hospital. The mobile unit will be in the health department parking lot from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The health department is located in the Bierhaus Building on North 2nd in Vincennes.
