Knox County Clerk David Shelton is reassuring voters about the security of the county’s voting system ahead of Election Day. Shelton explained that early voting machines are not tabulated until Election Day, and as early voting ended today at Noon, the machines were locked and sealed with numbered tags to ensure they remain untouched.
He also addressed concerns surrounding absentee ballots, highlighting that the county tracks every mail-in ballot sent, received, and still in transit. “There is absolutely no way for a ballot dump to happen in Indiana. The process is tightly controlled,” Shelton said.
As of this morning, over 7100 early in person votes had been cast. Shelton said while early, in person voting is up from 2020, absentee by mail is down. “We are at approximately 200 less early votes than 2020”, he said. Those numbers were reported before the early voting ended today.
Thirteen vote centers in Knox County will be open Tuesday from 6-a.m. to 6-p.m.
