Halloween is this week, and so is the observance of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. This  holiday, rooted in Hispanic tradition, is celebrated around November 1, when families and friends come together to honor those who have passed. The celebrations include food, music, and colorful decorations, with the belief that the veil between the living and the deceased is briefly lifted.

At Vincennes University, the Jefferson Student Union hosted a Day of the Dead event to share the tradition’s meaning. Organizer Fernando Lozano explained, “You celebrate the dead and you celebrate your own life. You celebrate the dead and you celebrate the achievements that you have done. The things that you have been able to achieve and succeed because of them, because of the past, creating the future.”
