The Francis Vigo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is preparing to honor a significant historical figure, Francis Vigo, with a new grave marker. Deb Burns, Registrar for the Francis Vigo Chapter, shared details about the upcoming event, which will be held at Green Lawn Cemetery on Sunday, October 27th, at 2 p.m.

The new marker, erected by the DAR in collaboration with the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), will officially recognize Vigo as a patriot of the American Revolution. While Vigo is widely known for his financial contributions to support George Rogers Clark’s militia, Burns emphasized his role in providing critical intelligence that helped secure the Northwest Territory during the war.

The ceremony will feature SAR members in period attire, a musket salute, and a performance by bagpiper Alayna Jacobus. Local historian Richard Day will also deliver a biography of Francis Vigo. Several dignitaries, including state leaders from the DAR, SAR, and Children of the American Revolution, are expected to attend.

Following the event, a reception will be held at the DAR Chapter House near the Green Activities Center. The public is invited to attend and honor Francis Vigo’s contributions to American history.
