Funeral services for Kayla Flaherty, whose body was discovered in Knox County, are set for Friday at 1 p.m. at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home in Vincennes, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Her husband, Daniel Keith Flaherty of Patoka, appeared in Gibson Superior Court Monday after being charged in connection with her death. According to court documents, he reported Kayla missing last Thursday, claiming she left for her mother’s home in Vincennes but never arrived. Investigators found no evidence she traveled there, and she also missed work at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Mr. Flaherty later allegedly admitted to striking her with a hammer, placing her body in their 2019 Highlander, and rigging the vehicle to drive into the Wabash River. Her body was found Friday night.
At the hearing, Flaherty pleaded not guilty. A public defender request was denied, and he was ordered held without bond.
Reports indicate that Mrs. Flaherty had recently filed for divorce.
