The Knox County Health Department is reminding residents of their access to essential health care services, a message highlighted at the inaugural Back on Track Health Fair held Monday at the Riverfront Pavilion in Vincennes.

Originally delayed due to weather, the event had a strong turnout. Attendees received free health information from organizations like PACE, MD-WISE, and KCARC. On-site services included vaccinations, lead testing, and flu shots.

Knox County Health Officer Dr. Alan Stewart noted a 33% increase in children’s vaccinations compared to last year, with fewer unvaccinated children since the pandemic. “Having children is very expensive and raising children is expensive and health care is expensive, but health care does not have to be expensive,” said Stewart. “For people who have limited resources, health care is available, and that’s one of the things we want to make people aware of here.”

Later this month, the health department will participate in the Health Promotion Fair at Vincennes University on October 19. The event will offer COVID-19 and flu shots, along with resources on smoking cessation and other health topics.
