A public information meeting about Section 2 of the Mid-States Corridor project is set for Thursday at Jasper Middle School. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with a presentation beginning at 6. The meeting will provide updates on the Dubois County study area, including plans for the new highway’s design and access points.
The study aims to determine the best route for the highway, focusing on a 200-to-500-foot-wide facility within a 2,000-foot-wide corridor from I-64 to north of Haysville.
The Mid-States Corridor is a proposed highway in southern Indiana that would connect I-64 to I-69, generally following US 231 and passing east of Huntingburg and Jasper.
Its goal is to improve transportation and reduce travel time, benefiting regional businesses and residents. However, the project faces strong opposition from locals concerned about its potential impact on farmland, wildlife habitats, and natural spaces, while business leaders support it for economic reasons.
For those who cannot attend Thursday’s public meeting, the project team will be available during office hours at the Vincennes University Jasper campus.
Full details and materials will also be posted online after the meeting at https://midstatescorridor.com/.
