Indiana State Police are investigating a domestic situation in Merom that turned into a standoff and ended with a suspect’s death. On Tuesday night (9/24), around 7:50 p.m., Sullivan County authorities contacted Indiana State Police for assistance with a shooting and a barricaded suspect near South 4th Street.

Officers found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds, who was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to Indianapolis. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

The suspect, 53-year-old Tony G. Maree of Merom, barricaded himself inside a residence. After multiple attempts to communicate, officers entered the home and found Maree deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing, with Indiana State Police detectives leading the case, assisted by several local agencies.
