Work has officially begun on the new I-69 bridge connecting Indiana and Kentucky over the Ohio River.

Governor Eric Holcomb, INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith, and Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at the future bridge’s approach site, just south of Evansville. The bridge is part of the ongoing I-69 project, which aims to strengthen connections between Indiana and surrounding states.

Governor Holcomb highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “This isn’t just about connecting Evansville, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne—it’s about linking three states and two of our biggest global trading partners.”

The four-lane bridge is expected to open by 2031, though Holcomb hinted at the possibility of an earlier completion, referencing past successes with I-69’s northern extension.
