September marks National Recovery Month, an annual observance that began in 1989 to promote awareness around mental health and addiction recovery. This month highlights evidence-based treatment and recovery practices while celebrating individuals in recovery.

In Knox County, the local recovery group, Knox County Recovery Out Loud, is hosting its third annual event and it’s called  “Rockin’ Recovery”. The event aims to bring the community together to celebrate recovery and support those on their journey.

“Our motto is that the opposite of addiction is connection,” said event organizer Vanessa Phillips. “We want people in recovery to proudly share their stories and know they have a supportive community around them.”

Phillips, along with other volunteers, has helped organize the event, which features free food, live music from Buck Rogers Clark, door prizes, and free T-shirts. “We’ve partnered with local businesses across Knox County to give away gift cards and other prizes,” Phillips added.

In addition to music, there will be activities for kids, including bounce houses, and attendees will have the chance to hear inspiring recovery stories throughout the event.

Rockin’ Recovery kicks off at noon this Saturday at Gregg Park in Vincennes.  There is no admission fee.
