Indiana farmers faced continued dry conditions last week as they prepared for the upcoming harvest, according to Nathanial Warenski, State Statistician with USDA NASS, Indiana Field Office.
For the week ending September 8th, topsoil moisture levels dropped, with only 37% rated as adequate or surplus.
The average temperature was 65°F, nearly 5 degrees below normal, and the state saw just 0.10 inches of rain, well below average. Despite the dryness affecting streams and ponds, corn and soybean crops remained stable, though some farmers worried about the impact on late-planted crops. Harvest preparations, silage, and seed corn harvest were underway, with livestock being supplemented with hay due to stalled pasture regrowth.
