John Meeks, currently the Athletic Director at Big Bend Community College in Washington, has been appointed as the new Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Vincennes University (VU).
The announcement was made during a recent Board of Trustees meeting.
A news release says Meeks brings a wealth of experience to VU, having spent 18 years in coaching and faculty roles across various institutions. Notably, he served as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Wallace State Community College for nine years, where his teams secured five conference championships and earned national recognition for their academic achievements.
The appointment follows the retirement of Harry Meeks, who served as VU’s Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach for 33 years. In his new role, John Meeks will focus solely on leading the athletic department.
Meeks holds a Master of Education in Physical Education from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Management from Bluefield College.
He is set to begin his new role on September 9.
VU President Chuck Johnson expressed enthusiasm for Meeks’ arrival, citing his combination of leadership, coaching experience, and a commitment to academic excellence as key factors in the decision.
