A pet food donation will get you a free adoption at the Vincennes Animal Shelter.

Officials with the shelter told the city’s Board of Works this week, they have been in critical mode with an influx of animals.

Animal Shelter Director Leah Reagan says the program was started about a week ago.  “So out of urgent need, we started a new promotion that if someone were to donate a large bag of dog or cat food, they would get a free adoption.”

Last week the shelter had nearly 140 animals and Reagan said the free adoption initiative has helped in getting animals to their forever homes.
