A man faces domestic battery and other charges from a weekend incident.

The Sheriff’s Department released the details today.

At 9:19pm on Saturday August 3rd, Knox County Central Dispatch was alerted to a crash detection on South Vieck Road. However, upon investigation, no vehicles were found at the location.

By 9:34 PM, deputies located the phone along the road but still found no vehicles nearby. Using the phone’s information, dispatch identified the owner and informed her that her phone was at the jail.

The owner, a female, arrived at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office to reclaim her phone. Deputies noticed injuries on her face and, after further inquiry, discovered she had been a victim of domestic violence.

She reported that during an argument with her ex-boyfriend, he demanded her phone. When she refused, he struck her, took the phone, and threw it out of the moving vehicle, triggering the crash detection feature.

Following this revelation, deputies arrested 27-year-old Benjamin Michael Youngren of Vincennes. He was charged with Domestic Battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 5 Felony; Interference in Reporting a Crime, a Class A Misdemeanor; and Invasion of Privacy, a Class A Misdemeanor. Youngren remains in jail under a $10,000 cash-only bond.

Authorities urge victims of domestic violence to report incidents by calling 812-882-1502 or visiting the National Domestic Violence Hotline at https://www.thehotline.org/.
