There are two new captains in town.

Captain Joey Gates and Captain Pamela Gates are the new leaders at the Vincennes Salvation Army.

The husband-wife team are originally from Kansas City, Missouri, and have two teenage sons starting at Clark Middle School and Lincoln High School this year.

The Gates began their Salvation Army journey in Des Moines, Iowa, and later moved to Kokomo, Indiana. They’ve been in Vincennes for about a month now. Captain Joey noted that Vincennes is the smallest area they have served.

They are focused on improving generational dependence on social services.

They will soon be implementing a new program called “Pathway of Hope” which Captain Joey says doesn’t  just offer those in need a hand-out, but rather, a hand-up.

Captain Joey Gates emphasized that he and his wife are here to serve the Vincennes community for the duration of their stay.

They also want the public to know that the Salvation Army is a church, offering Sunday services and midweek Bible studies. For more information about the organization or volunteering opportunities, visit their building at 2300 North 2nd or call 812-882-6933.
