Good Samaritan Hospital has welcomed a new member to its Volunteer Services team: Willow, a certified therapy dog. Willow, a five-year-old New Finland Poodle, has been providing comfort to patients, caregivers, and visitors.

Willow’s handler, Dennis Everett, noted, “Willow has a natural ability to connect with people. It’s incredible to see how a simple interaction with her can brighten someone’s day.”

Ali McCrary, the Volunteer Services Manager, explained that Willow’s role as a therapy dog is different from that of a service dog. “We had therapy animals in the past before the COVID pandemic, and now we are excited to offer this service again.” Since Willow and Dennis began visiting twice a week, the response has been positive, with many asking when they will return.

McCrary also mentioned that the presence of therapy dogs is growing at Good Samaritan, and they welcome additional certified therapy animals. For those interested in becoming handlers or volunteering, Good Samaritan encourages reaching out through their website or contact details.
