Voting machines are being updated in Knox County.

The current machines provided by Microvote have been in use for over 20 years.

Knox County Clerk David Shelton told the county commissioners earlier this week that replacement parts for the current machines are no longer available.

Microvote offered the county a two year payment plan to pay for new machines which will cost around $196,000.

Shelton says an added line item in the budget a few years ago has allowed him to save over half of the cost needed.

He says he will address the remaining cost in the 2025 and 2026 budgets as well as seek out election funding grants to help pay for the 70 new machines.

Shelton is hopeful the new machines will be available for use in the November election.
