For the first time in modern history, there will be no local Democratic candidates on the Knox County election ballot.
Knox County Clerk David Shelton reported Wednesday that the deadline for County Political Party Chairs to make appointments for ballot vacancies passed at noon with no new candidates added to the ballot.
In the local November General Election there will not be Democratic candidates on the ballot for County Council At-Large, County Commissioner District 1 and 2, County Treasurer, or County Coroner.
The Knox County Republican Party did not make any ballot appointments, as they had candidates file for every office back in January.
While not on the ballot, Knox County Surveyor Dick Vermillion will remain the one and only elected Democrat in County office.
Shelton asked the public not to call his office to complain about the lack of competitive local races, as that is beyond the control of the clerk’s office.
Republicans with no competition who will be taking office in January are:
- For County Council at Large–incumbent Dan Reitmeyer, along with new council members Jon Hillenbrand and Kevin Meyer. The total make up of the Knox County Council will remain 7-0 Republican
- County Commissioner District 1-incumbent T.J. Brink
- County Commissioner District 2-Tim Ellerman II who defeated incumbent Trent Hinkle in the Primary. The Commissioner Board will continue to be made up of all Republicans.
- Republican Treasurer Cendy Joslin will remain in office for another four year term.
- Recently appointed Republican Coroner Joe Millspaugh will earn a complete four year term, beginning Jan 1, 2025.
