The Knox County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents of a scam.
People have been getting calls from someone claiming to be with the sheriff’s department telling them they’ve missed a court date and there is a warrant out for their arrest.
The caller asks for money to avoid arrest and requests to meet in person.
The Sheriff’s Department says legitimate law enforcement doesn’t make unsolicited calls demanding money and won’t call to tell someone there is a warrant for their arrest.
Anyone receiving such a call should hang up and then notify the Knox County Sheriff’s Department at 812-882-7660.
