You’ve likely heard about the Knox Sports Complex which is a non-profit organization looking to build a new indoor facility to include swimming, tennis, pickle-ball, rock-climbing and more.
They have fundraising efforts underway to help the facility become a reality.
The goal is not only to create more opportunity for participation in sports activity but also to improve the health and well being in the area.
Also currently going on is a 2.5 million dollar renovation of the YMCA of Vincennes where areas of the 50 year old building are being refurbished and re-purposed into spaces for simulated sports as well as hands on play.
In addition to those projects is a separate idea to create a small outdoor venue for sports tournament use.
We recently interviewed the Executive Director of the Vincennes Knox County Tourism Bureau, Janice Barniak who told us one of the goals of that project is help draw more visitors to Vincennes who are involved in tournament sports…
The state and county government recently voted to increase the local in-keepers tax which is paid by those who visit a community and stay at local hotels and motels.
Those extra funds would not be enough for construction of a sports tournament venue but could be used for a feasibility study and for upkeep and maintenance after it was built.
