Support and excitement is growing for a proposed Knox County Indoor Sports Complex.
A social media campaign has been underway for some time for the Knox Sports Complex. There is also a website.
The non profit has a mission to improve the health & economic vitality of the community.
Facilities will include, swimming, tennis, pickle-ball, rock-climbing and more. It’s all about providing opportunity and activity for the area’s youth and attracting and stimulating the local economy by attracting visitors from outside Knox County.
The $16 million dollar project is all being spearheaded by Dr. Sally Bodensteiner who moved here from Iowa and is from a town like Vincennes where she says such a facility existed and she saw the need for a complex here.
Work is underway to secure a 46 acre piece of property along Main near Clark Middle School that costs $630,000.
Fundraising goals are in the works to cover the purchase price.
Local financial institutions have offered lending and to host donation platforms.
Donations are being accepted at knoxsportscomplex.com and Dr. Bodensteiner says grant funding is also being sought.
