In a joint meeting of the Knox County Commissioners and Council, the Council has passed a resolution expressing interest in a former bank building.

At Tuesday’s meeting at the Pantheon, Commissioner Trent Hinkle started out giving a brief history of an ongoing space needs assessment for county offices.

The multi-story ONB building was described as in super good shape with 28,000 square feet of space and if acquired would be part of the plan to reorganize where some government offices would be located.

Commissioner Kellie Streeter expressed that she didn’t believe the building was a good fit for a government building citing the efforts in recent years to create a downtown filled with housing and commerce.

The price tag mentioned at the meeting was one dollar shy of $750,000 for the building and adjacent parking lot.

The council’s resolution allows the commissioners to get the property appraised, and make an offer if they so choose.
